Winning the toss and electing to field, Captain Lauren Hardern asked her team to take the momentum gained from the Inter-Service 40 Over competition last week into the T20 fixture in preparation for the upcoming Inter-Services T20. After a solid start from openers Mel Vaggers and Gabie Clark, the bowling failed to fire and it was a disappointing performance after the consistency of the week before. However, the Army restricted Alton to 144 which was an achievable total on a fast outfield.
It turned out to be another comfortable win for the Army with Mel Vaggers scoring another half century as the in-form player backed up by Gabie Clarke. After a rare error from Clarke running between the wickets, Vaggers was run out and Lauren Hardern and Clarke finished the game in the 18th over. Despite clearly not being the Army’s best performance, there are points to take from the game and many positives to build on. Vice-captain Kirsty Gavillet and strike bowler Amanda Potgieter will be a welcome return to the side for the remaining T20 fixtures.
