Army Ladies beat Cambridge Ladies by Nine Wickets

By June 19, 2018 No Comments

After a recent defeat against the MCC, and an unfortunate run of rain delayed games, the Army Ladies went into this fixture knowing the Inter Services were just around the corner. Winning the toss, and with rain threatening, the Army Ladies elected to bowl. The Ladies got off to a flying start with Mel Vaggers taking the first wicket. Kirsty Gavillet kept the run rate down with four maidens in the first of her six overs. Tight fielding from the Army Ladies and encouraging figures from Clark, 2-7, Potgieter, 1-19 and Gavillet 1-10, left Cambridge on 115 for 6.

The rain stayed away and the sun appeared to allow the Army ladies to get out for the second Innings. Cambridge struggled to find wickets, with the Army making 92 before taking the first wicket; Goergie Cant making 35. It was then up to Vaggers and Potgieter to finish off the host team, with Vaggers scoring a 57 not out. The Army Ladies won by nine wickets in the 19th over.

With one more game against Oxford University before the Inter Services, the Army Ladies will look to build on the success of this game and move forward to the 40 over competition with the aim of winning back the Inter Services trophy at the end of the month.
